Our Perplexity Pro review for 2026, in short: Perplexity is an answer engine that searches the web and replies with numbered citations. Its Pro plan is $17 a month when billed annually on the current pricing page ($20 a month in the vendor's July 2025 post), against a free tier and Max at $167 a month billed annually. Pro adds deep research, model choice, higher upload limits, image generation and its Computer agent tools. It suits people who research daily; no page we read gives numeric usage limits, and its Trustpilot score (1.4) is far below G2 (4.4) and Capterra (4.2).

What Perplexity Pro does
Perplexity describes itself as an answer engine: you ask a question, it searches the web, and it answers with numbered citations that link to the sources. The free tier does the basic version. Pro raises the limits and adds the heavier tools. Based on Perplexity's pricing page and Help Center, here is what Pro includes:
- Pro Search and Research: multi-step searches and a Research mode that selects models automatically and writes longer reports. The Help Center describes "extended access" to both, and the pricing page lists "Deep research".
- Model choice: Pro lets you switch between models from several providers. The pricing page shows models from OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, Moonshot AI, Z.ai and xAI; the FAQ and the Help Center name different model versions from each other, so the line-up is clearly changing and you should check the in-app list.
- Citations: the Help Center says Pro gives 10x as many citations per answer as the free tier.
- Files and uploads: increased file and photo uploads, and up to 50 file uploads per project.
- Create files and apps: builds reports, spreadsheets, dashboards and simple web apps; on Pro the Help Center says this is limited "every 30 days".
- Computer: an agent-style product the pricing page calls "Perplexity Computer", with expanded access and bonus credits on Pro. The pages we read do not say how credits are consumed.
- Media and extras: image generation, limited video generation, a Pro Discord channel and priority Pro support.
The pricing page shows the Pro and Max plans with the line "For personal use only and subject to our policies." We have not tested any of the features, so what follows describes plans and limits, not answer quality or accuracy.

Reading the numbers: the current pricing page prints "$17 /month when billed annually" for Pro and "$167 /month when billed annually" for Max. We could not capture a monthly-billing toggle. The $20 monthly figure for Pro comes from Perplexity's own blog post of July 2, 2025, and matches our earlier Perplexity Pro vs ChatGPT Search vs Gemini Deep Research guide, but it is more than a year old, so confirm it. Our arithmetic: $17 a month billed annually is $204 a year, about 15% less than twelve months at $20. Third-party price trackers report Max at $200 a month; we could not confirm that on a Perplexity page.
Usage limits: none of the pages we read gives a number for daily Pro Searches, Research runs or Create files and apps queries. The Help Center says advanced-model access "may be limited during weeks of especially heavy usage". Treat any exact quota you read elsewhere as unverified until you see it in your account.
Billing details: the Help Center says payment methods include cards, Cash App, Google and Apple Pay and ACH. Trial or promotional subscriptions require a valid card, and unless you cancel before the trial ends the subscription renews at the standard rate. It also warns not to update payment details through the App Store or Google Play, because that creates a separate subscription and a second charge.
Data use: the pricing page FAQ says searches may be used to improve its AI by default, that you can opt out in Account Settings, and that Enterprise and API customers have zero data retention.
What we could not confirm: the current monthly price for Pro and Max; daily and monthly usage quotas; how Computer credits are spent; which exact models Pro includes today; and whether the "limited time" credit offers will still be there when you read this.

G2 (4.4) and Capterra (4.2) are positive but rest on smaller counts than the other tools in this series, while Trustpilot shows 1.4 from 835 reviews on an unclaimed profile. We have not analyzed the review text. Trustpilot's own auto-generated summary of 433 recent reviews says most reviewers were let down and mentions customer service that relies on automated replies, subscription cost, account lockouts and billing transparency; that is Trustpilot's summary, not our finding, and we have not verified it. The gap between sites is a reason to read recent reviews and to check how your subscription will bill before you pay.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Good fit: students, analysts, writers and consultants who spend a lot of time searching and want sourced answers rather than a list of links. If you regularly hit the free tier's Pro Search ceiling, or want to compare models and upload documents for analysis, Pro is the step Perplexity points to. Students and educators should check Education Pro first.
