The short answer

Pick Beautiful.ai if presentations are the main thing you make and you want slides that lay themselves out: its Smart Slides adjust the design as you add content, and every paid seat includes unlimited AI content generation. Pick Canva if decks are one job among many (social posts, documents, video) or you need a free plan: Canva has a US$0 tier and Pro costs US$144 a year, while Beautiful.ai has no free plan, only a 14-day trial that needs a credit card.

How each one builds a deck

Beautiful.ai: the layout is done for you

Beautiful.ai's pricing page lists over 300 Smart Slide layouts with auto-formatting, a custom theme builder (colors, fonts, logos, footers), one-click theme switching, dynamic data visualizations, and PowerPoint import and export. On the AI side, every plan lists unlimited AI content generation, AI image generation, an AI writing assistant, AI translation, and the option to add context from files or links. If you want freedom instead of guardrails, Beautiful.ai also offers blank Classic Slides.

The trade-off is focus: Beautiful.ai only makes presentations. If you also need social graphics or video, you'll still pay for another tool.

Canva: a full design suite that also makes decks

Canva is a general design editor, and presentations sit next to social posts, documents, print and video. Its Pro plan lists AI tools such as Magic Layers, Magic Resize, Magic Animate, Magic Write and Translate, plus 5 Brand Kits and 100 GB of storage. AI on Canva is metered: the free plan allows up to 20 AI uses and Pro up to 200 Premium uses, per our October 13 check of the pricing page. You place and size elements yourself, so decks look as good as the person building them.

Verdict

For people whose job is presentations, Beautiful.ai's self-arranging slides and unlimited AI are worth the higher price (about $174 a year against Canva Pro's US$144). For everyone else, Canva is the safer start: it's free to try without a card, cheaper for one person, and covers far more than slides.
